First Person: The Effect of Japan's Disaster on My Stock Yields (ContributorNetwork)
[unable to retrieve full-text content]ContributorNetwork - My stock portfolio has been devastated by the Tsunami in Japan. I hold many stock heavily invested in yen funds. These funds dropped 8 percent in the first 48 hours since the damage to Sendai and they continued to drop in the week afterward. I own more than 1,000 shares in these funds, as well as commodity futures directly affected by the price of oil. Oil-related futures took a modest loss since Japan imports 100 percent of its oil, and is one of the largest consumers per-capita based on population. My portfolio took an overall loss of 4 percent.
