Dig Weekend Guide ? Sept 14-16 | Dig Lounge

Welcome to the Weekend. Chase those lazy days of summer away as Chefs Inc teaches you how to cook with salt, then with your new found knowledge head to the Epicure Imports? Warehouse Sale, and find a good wine to pair with your meal at Wally?s. If you?d rather have someone cook for you, sip on wine and bites from wineries and the best restaurants in Temecula, pick up some lobster at the Port of LA or some Greek food in Santa Anita. It?s always take, take, take, so give a little something back at Coastal Clean Up Day, catch an outdoor flick, catch local music at Hotel Cafe, or start the Oktoberfest celebrations on Saturday. Then on Sunday sober up at Villian?s Chicken & Pancakes Sundays or try the food of Sabina Banderas at Playa?s Baja Chef Series.

Salt of the Earth Cooking Class

Chefs Inc presents Salt of the Earth. Who doesn?t love salt? And cooking with different salts can add a dynamic to any meal. Here?s an opportunity to learn about and use a variety of gourmet salts. You will prepare; Grilled Shrimp with Sea Salt, Kosher Salt Encrusted Whole Trout, Paillards of Chicken with Tarragon and Flake Salt, Crusty Roasted Potatoes with Grey Salt, Roasted Peaches in Bourbon Syrup with Smoked Salt. Epicure Imports? Warehouse Sale
North Hollywood (FRI & SAT)
The general public will have the opportunity to stock up on imported wine and gourmet food products at Epicure Imports? open warehouse sale. Held from 12:30 p.m.-5 p.m. on Friday, and from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, the sale will offer a large selection of items like Champagne, French cheeses, truffle oils and chocolates at warehouse prices. Shoppers will also be able to taste a few samples along the way.

If you missed the LA Greek Festival last weekend, don?t worry. The Pasadena Greek Festival takes place at Santa Anita Park on September 14-16. It will feature Greek food, dancing and entertainment. Entry is $5 and parking is $4. There will be plenty of food like Souvlakia, Moussaka, Loukaniko, Dolmathes, Spanikopita, Baklava, and Loukoumathes.

Malibu Family Wines

Live music is back at the Malibu Family Wines tasting room. Grab a picnic basket and a bottle of wine from their tasting counter and enjoy live music in the beautiful hills of Malibu. The music starts on Friday night from 7-9pm and continues through the weekend. Shows are free and are 21 and over only. Temecula Valley CRUSH

The Temecula Valley CRUSH is the one and only event showcasing the wines of 30 plus member wineries of the Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association in one location. Taking place at the newly remodeled Callaway Winery, you will meet the winery owners, chat with the winemakers and enjoy the culinary creations of both winery and local restaurants while sampling incredible Temecula Valley wines. Sonos @ Hotel Cafe

LA-based electronic/pop vocalists, Sonos will be showcasing their contemporary sounds and a few new originals from their upcoming album at Hotel Cafe. They combine beautiful harmonies and unique electronic production, perfect for an end of summer show. Tickets are just $10.50.

Coastal Clean Up Day
Beach Cities
California Coastal Cleanup Day, an annual beach and inland waterway cleanup, is the state?s largest volunteer event. In 2010, over 82,500 volunteers removed more than 1.2 million pounds of trash and recyclables from our beaches, lakes, and waterways. When combined with the International Coastal Cleanup, organized by Ocean Conservancy and taking place on the same day, California Coastal Cleanup Day becomes part of one of the largest volunteer events in the world. The Big Bear Lake Oktoberfest provides an excuse to enjoy a weekend away from the stress and obligations of everyday life in a beautiful alpine setting. The festival takes place high in the San Bernardino mountains, approximately two hours away from LA. Along with loads of beer, vendors selling their wares, there will be serve a German feast fit for a king. All the favorites from Brats, to Sauerbraten, to pretzels, to pickled pig feets. California Beer Festival

Come experience over 130 craft beers on tap at Craft Beer Heaven on Saturday, as well as mouth watering food and great entertainment. The Blues, Brews and BBQ event will be held on Sunday. Baja Chef Series: Sabina Banderas

Three of Baja?s best chefs will create unique a la carte menus at Playa in conjunction with Chef Sedlar?s new, relaxed Cielo Verde (rooftop garden) inspired menu. Each guest chef will host three nights in this three-week series with their menu (featuring five items) and collaborative cocktails with Executive Bar Director, Julian Cox, as well as the release of Playa?s new Baja Punch. First up is Sabina Banderas, the owner of La Guerrerense. Her stand is likely the only of its kind in Mexico, a seafood stand that eclipses all others from the Gulf, the Sea of Cortez, the Pacific and the Caribbean Coasts of Mexico, and is regarded as one of the top street stands in the world. Dishes range from $5-$18.

Villains Tavern Presents: Chicken & Pancakes Sundays

The L.A. Derby Dolls are Southern California?s premiere all-female, banked track roller derby league. Watch girls on wheels as they battle out on the track with two teams of five players each: four blockers (one of whom wears a striped helmet cover as the ?pivot?) and one jammer. Upstairs 2, located above the massive Wine House, offers a four-course dinner prepared by chef Todd Barrie every Wednesday, paired with four wines from around the world selected by sommelier Marilyn Snee. September 20 ? Acclaimed for its ambitious beer program, the Lazy Dog Oktoberfest celebration will feature six seasonal German beers that will be on tap at all ten Lazy Dog locations. Special beers include Hofbr?u M?nchen Original, Hacker-Pschorr Munich Gold Lager, Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier, Hofbr?u M?nchen Dunkel, K?strivtzer Schwarzbier, and Spaten Optimator Doppelbock. To pair with the German beers, a Lazy Dog Brat and Brick Oven Pretzel. These specials run through October 31st.

September 20-30 ? 10 days of beer centric happenings hit Los Angeles during LA Beer Week. From beer maker dinners, beer float ice-cream socials, brewery events, classes and more. This is your chance to try all sorts of craft beers not always available for consumption in So Cal.

September 23 ? Brew Something LA and The Victorian bring you The Beauty of the Barrel. Not only will ten breweries all be pouring barrel-aged beer, but four distillers will be bringing barrel-aged spirits. Attendees get unlimited pours of beer from Hangar 24, Meantime, Bockor, Drake?s, The Bruery, Eagle Rock, New Belgium, Firestone Walker, Ballast Point, and Ladyface. September 27 ? The San Gennaro Foundation kicks off October?s Italian Heritage Month, a celebration of everything it means to be Italian, with their annual street festival, The Galbani Cheese Italian Feast of San Gennaro. Inspired by the 80+ year old New York City tradition, the Feast celebrates Italian culture, entertainment and cuisine, and will feature great food, music, genealogy research, a kid?s corner, bocce, bingo, carnival rides, games and more. Surprise celebrity guests will join the cooking team, as they demonstrate Italian recipes on the Galbani Cheese La Cucina Italiana Cooking Stage with special guest, Galbani Cheese?s very own Chef Marco. September 29 ? Vista Vineyards is back at the fairmont Hotel in Santa Monica. This event includes a dazzling array of wine & spirits, as well as a sampling of seasonal food from the award winning Fig Restaurant. The event is a fundraiser for Vista Del Mar, a wonderful organization that provides a range of exceptional programs in education, autism, mental health, adoption, residential care, prevention and early intervention to over 5,000 children and families. October 16-21 ? What do you get when you combine KISS front man Gene Simmons with Master Chef Wolfgang Puck and
AEG? Rocktoberfest at L.A. LIVE. Nightly festivities will include DJs and live bands, special celebrity guests, beer-friendly cuisine, local, national and international beers, and a special craft beer festival on Sunday,
October 21. Nightly festivities are scheduled for Tuesday, October 16 through Saturday, October 20 from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. with early bird tickets starting at just $20. Closing out the first annual Rocktoberfest on Sunday, October 21, will be the Craft Brew Festival from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. which will feature more than 50 different craft beers and breweries.

October 20-21 ? 626 Night Market expands to the vast acreage of Santa Anita Racetrack in October. The event will run from 3pm until 12am on Saturday and 3pm until 10pm on Sunday. The 626 Night Market is the largest night time asian themed market in Los Angeles. The event has had it?s growing pains in the past, but the organizers have made great progress in making this one of the best open air markets in So Cal. Admission to the market is free. Those interested in selling their wares can also apply.

October 21 ? The Food Event by Los Angeles Magazine returns to the beautiful Saddle Rock Ranch in Malibu for a food and wine event that is worth the drive. The 7th annual event will feature bites from Black Market, Loteria, Lazy Ox, Milo & Olive, Mo-Chica, Night+Market, Picca, Short Order, The Royce and lots more! There will be over a dozen wineries, including the wines of Malibu Family Wines. There will also be a handfull of cooking demos as well. Pre-sale tickets are $98.
