NEW YORK(CBSNewYork)?? Hundreds of kittens, puppies, cats and dogs were put up for adoption in the 3rd Annual Adoptapalooza in Washington Square Park on Saturday.

The event also featured a pet fashion show, agility demonstrations, the world?s only poker playing dog, pet portraits, face painting, and raffles.

1010 WINS? Susan Richard reported from the event, she also served as Master of Ceremonies?

The pets were all fully vaccinated, micro-chipped, and spayed or neutered.

Jane Hoffman, President of the Mayor?s Alliance for NYC?s animals told CBS 2?s Don Dahler,?that the event helps save the lives of many animals by sparing them from euthanasia.

Many of the pets were victims of abuse or abandonment.

Hoffman advised pet owners to spay or neuter their pets. Doing so keeps their offspring out of shelters where they are often euthanized.

Thanks in part to events like Adoptapalooza, euthanasia in New York has been reduced by sixty=eight percent.
