There is brand new "Glee" news that is so exciting, my fellow Gleeks will be dancing around Chicago when they find out.
Fox TV just announced that "Glee Live! 3D!" will be released in theaters across the country this summer. That's right, you get to see your beloved Rachel, Finn, Mercedes, Santana, and the whole crew singing and dancing their hearts out on a giant Cineplex screen in full 3D glory. The film will include footage from their live concert tours.
I also just found out that there are now three shows added to see "Glee Live! In Concert!" in Chicago. And if you're still not excited enough to toss those slushies in the air, you will be when you find out that our favorite "Glee" teacher, "Mr. Shue" (aka Matthew Morrison) will be in the Windy City for a special performance at the Rosemont Theatre in June.
I had the great fortune to work several times as a background extra on "Glee" when I lived in Los Angeles. Most of my time on set, I was booked as a teacher or parent sitting in the audience as they would film the concert scenes. I can tell you first-hand that the talent on this show is not preprogrammed, special effects, or fake lip-syncing. They truly are some of the best singers and performers I have ever seen, and they work hard to perfect those numbers.
The other part that blew my mind is that many of the people you see in the scenes with the main actors, the other dancers, Cheerios, musicians, and singers, are often background extras like me. They would be there, too, working intense hours, performing their routines dozens of times in a row to get it just right, and they maintained that same energy and passion, hour after hour. It was an incredible experience to be there to see this creative process in action.
If you love "Glee" or have never had the chance to see these beautiful, talented, and enormously gifted performers in person, now is your chance.
There are still tickets available for the "Glee Live! In Concert!" tour at the Allstate Arena, June 3-4, 2011. Matthew Morrison will be at the Rosemont Theatre on June 21, 2011, and tickets can be purchased online or in person.
You'll have more time to get ready for that 3D movie, however. "Glee Live! 3D!" will not hit theaters until August 12, 2011.
